Gyokuro – Jewel Dew Japanese Green Tea πŸ’ŽπŸ΅

Discover the exquisite taste of Gyokuro Japanese Green Tea, one of Japan's most celebrated teas. Translating to "Jewel Dew," Gyokuro is carefully shade-grown before harvest, a traditional method that enhances its sweet, savoury umami depth.

Brewed to perfection, Gyokuro reveals a rich, silky liquor with a fresh green vegetal aroma β€” a rare and refined tea experience enjoyed by connoisseurs worldwide.

Packed in premium double-lid tin caddies, this prestigious Japanese tea is preserved for maximum freshness and aroma, ensuring every cup is as luxurious as the first.

🌿 Why This Tea? Gyokuro is not simply Japan's finest green tea β€” it is one of the most technically demanding and labour-intensive teas produced anywhere in the world, and the result of that extraordinary care is immediately, unmistakably apparent in the cup. Three weeks before harvest, the tea plants are shaded from direct sunlight β€” a deliberate, painstaking process that slows photosynthesis, forcing the leaf to accumulate extraordinary concentrations of chlorophyll, L-theanine, and the amino acids that produce Gyokuro's signature deep, savoury umami character. The result is a green tea unlike any other β€” richer, more complex, and more profoundly satisfying than anything the unshaded category can offer, with a silky, almost viscous texture and a sweetness that lingers on the palate long after the cup is empty. This is the tea that Japanese tea masters reserve for their most honoured guests β€” and with good reason.

πŸ‘€ Who Is It For? This tea is for the true connoisseur β€” someone who has explored the green tea category thoroughly and is ready for its undisputed pinnacle. It's for the matcha enthusiast curious about the shaded tea tradition expressed in loose leaf form, and for the umami lover who wants that deep, savoury complexity in a cup rather than a dish. It's for the collector of rare and exceptional teas with genuine Japanese provenance, and for the gift-giver who wants to present something that will be immediately, reverently recognised by anyone with serious tea knowledge as something genuinely special. If ceremonial matcha is Japan's most famous luxury tea expression, Gyokuro is its most quietly extraordinary one β€” less known outside Japan, more revered within it, and wholly deserving of both.

πŸ•˜ When to Drink It? Gyokuro demands and rewards complete, undivided attention β€” and the occasions that earn it should reflect that. A slow morning when the house is quiet and the day has not yet begun its demands. A carefully prepared guest tea for someone whose palate and appreciation you deeply respect. A solo ritual of deliberate, meditative indulgence on an afternoon when you decide, with full intention, that this hour belongs entirely to the cup. Gyokuro is unforgiving of heat and haste β€” brew it at a low 50–60Β°C, significantly cooler than any other tea in your collection, for 90 seconds to 2 minutes. This precise, low temperature is non-negotiable β€” it is what unlocks the umami sweetness and prevents the bitterness that higher temperatures immediately introduce. Use a small teapot or gaiwan, brew in small quantities, and drink it in two or three unhurried sips from a small cup β€” the Japanese way, which treats each pour as a complete experience in itself. The leaves will steep beautifully two or three times, each infusion lighter and more delicate than the last, the umami depth giving way gradually to a clean, sweet greenness that is the final, quiet signature of one of the world's great teas.

Jacob β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

The shade-grown thing really comes through β€” this is nothing like the grassy sencha I usually drink, way sweeter and almost brothy. I only used a teaspoon and still got that deep umami, so the bag's going to last me a while.

Benjamin β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Steeped this at 140Β°F like the instructions suggested and the shade-grown leaves gave off almost no bitterness, just a deep savory sweetness that lingers. The umami is really noticeable compared to the regular sencha I used to drink.

Robert β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

I've never had a green tea this sweet without any bitterness at all. The shade-grown leaves make a real difference, it tastes almost brothy with that umami thing people talk about. Steeping it lukewarm instead of boiling was the trick for me.
